Nut Roast

This is one of my all time favourite recipes and mine and Kaiya's favourite roast dinner

100g Wholemeal bread (about 4 slices)
1 small Onion chopped (I use frozen so I don't have to chop them)
225g Mixed nuts
1/2 pint Vegetable stock + 1 Tbs for frying the onions
2 tsp Yeast extract
1tsp Mixed Herbs
a pinch of Salt and Pepper

Grease a loaf tin with a little coconut oil and turn on the oven to preheat at 180.
Grind the nuts in a food processor and place in a bowl
Grind the bread into breadcrumbs in the food processor - place some of the breadcrumbs into a separate bowl and set aside - mix the rest with the nuts.

Introduction to The Chakra's

Whether you are new to yoga, or even if you've been practising for some time, you may or may not have come across the Chakras, I was years into my practice before I took an interest in Chakras, but as soon as I did I was hooked, so much made sense and I still strive to find balance, it was only when I began my Kundalini training that I found it necessary to develop even more understanding around the Chakras, what they are, what they do and how we can use them to gain deeper insight into ourselves and make sense of life.

Aqua Yoga

Hey yoga peeps, I'm so excited to tell you that I'm now qualified in Aqua Yoga and am so excited to offer you wonderful Yogi's an opportunity to enhance and vary your practice as Yoga is accessible to everyone by modifying the asanas for use in water :)
There's so many benefits to doing Yoga in the water, from a physical standpoint there is less stress on the joints and more opportunity to build strength by utilising the waters resistance, also the water may allow a greater range of motion, from a mind-body standpoint, water is very comforting and nurturing, which enhances relaxation and readies our minds for a deeper meditative experience.

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2015.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
If like you me you over indulged just a little, we have a perfect yoga class this January to help detox the system.
We are working on stimulating the circulatory, digestive and lymphatic systems, these systems rid toxins and waste from our body.
Through various asanas you'll tone the tummy from the inside out and feel the gentle pressure on your kidneys, liver and spleen, which stimulates the removal of waste, toxins and aids digestion.

Merry Christmas Athelstan School

What a brilliant yoga class we had on Wednesday at Athelstan School.
I have been working with the children of Athelstan House School Hampton for a few years now and they are an amazing bunch, Wednesday afternoon was our last class before Christmas and we had a blast, lots of Christmas songs, silly games and of course decorating each other up in (Christmas) tree pose :)
I look forward to seeing you all again in January, have a wonderful Christmas :)

Yoga Nidra

Hey guys, it's rapidly approaching that time of year again when I treat you all to your Christmas present that is Yoga Nidra :)
Yoga Nidra is a method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
You will learn to relax consciously.
We may feel we're relaxing when we collapse on the sofa with a cup of coffee and switch on the tv, but these are only sensory diversions, true relaxation is actually an experience far beyond all this, for absolute relaxation you must remain aware, this is yoga nidra, the state of dynamic sleep.

Experts estimate that up to 10% of the general population may have some
degree of hypermobility, with women affected about three times more often than
Both my children suffer in different ways with this condition and I have carefully planned exercises to help strengthen the muscles to support the ligaments rather than encouraging them to stretch their ever flexible joints even further, I have an increasing number of people in my classes suffering various levels of hypermobility who I'm able to help through my experiences of having hypermobile children.

Yoga with Children

I have been doing yoga for 20 years, and have worked with children for more than 7 years as well as having my own for 14 years! my passion for yoga combined with the fun of working with kids inspired me to develop Children's Yoga Classes, my own daughter started practicing with me at home when she was 18 months old, Yoga comes so natural to a child and I was amazed at how calm and radiant she became after practice.  This technique helps children nurture a positive image of themselves and others and teaches that yoga is a science of both the body and the mind.

Pose of the month

Cow Face Pose

Cow face pose, or Gomukhasana, is a challenging seated pose. It is a deep hip opener and is often difficult for people with tight shoulders. Although it is a seated, deep stretch pose, it is noted as being a restorative one.

Cow Face Yoga PoseCow face pose opens the shoulder joint giving a wider range of motion. It is a key pose for opening the hips. Hips are the known storage depot for stress, anxiety and fear. Sitting in this pose for several minutes while concentrating on your breath and release of these deep muscles, your body will overcome these negative affects, it will also improve your posture because of the focus on the lift of the spine.

Why am I more flexible on one side ?

Are you stronger and more flexible on one side of the body more than the other ? this came up in class this week and I thought it interesting and good to tell you this is normal ! Most people are out of balance due to life's conditioning on their body, as a right handed person I favour one side over the other all the time in everyday stuff.
A consistent yoga practice focusing on balancing each side of the body is the best way to even things up. Lots of people work on improving flexibility but first we need to improve the balance throughout the body, work on evening each side up rather than deepening the stretch on the more flexible side.
