Are you stronger and more flexible on one side of the body more than the other ? this came up in class this week and I thought it interesting and good to tell you this is normal ! Most people are out of balance due to life's conditioning on their body, as a right handed person I favour one side over the other all the time in everyday stuff.
A consistent yoga practice focusing on balancing each side of the body is the best way to even things up. Lots of people work on improving flexibility but first we need to improve the balance throughout the body, work on evening each side up rather than deepening the stretch on the more flexible side. In a practical sense, be aware on which side you twist or bend further in and notice which side feels tighter, bring the same awareness to both sides and pause and hold off taking the stretch further on the flexible side, focus on awakening the tighter side first, then we can improve the weaker side and develop a balance before deepening the stretch on both sides.
